Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By registering for or using Saintara ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you ("Client") and Saintara ("we", "us", "our").

2. Description of Service

Saintara is a managed website translation service. Clients embed a JavaScript snippet on their website. When a visitor selects a language, the snippet sends page content to the Saintara API, which translates it using a third-party translation provider and returns the result. Translations are cached to minimise API usage.

Saintara offers two translation models: a managed option (we use our own Google Translate account) and a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) option where you supply an API key from a supported provider (DeepL or OpenAI). The model for your account is agreed at setup and can be changed by contacting us.

3. Account Registration

You must provide a valid email address and create a password to register. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must notify us immediately at hello@saintara.io if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal authority to enter into these Terms on behalf of yourself or your organisation.

4. API Keys and Provider Accounts

You are solely responsible for your third-party translation provider API key ("Provider Key"), including its security, usage, and any costs incurred with the provider. We encrypt your Provider Key at rest using AES-256-GCM and do not transmit it to any party other than the designated translation provider on your behalf.

We are not liable for any charges, overages, or service disruptions arising from your provider account.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Translate content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, hateful, or violates any applicable law
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the Saintara API
  • Share your sb_id snippet credentials with third parties not authorised by you
  • Circumvent rate limits or access controls
  • Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair our infrastructure

6. Trial Period and Payment

New clients receive a 14-day free trial. During the trial, the full service is active with no charge. After the trial period, continued access requires a paid agreement. Billing terms will be communicated at the point of agreeing to continue. We reserve the right to update pricing with 30 days' notice.

7. Data and Privacy

We cache translated text strings (not personal data) in Redis with a 30-day TTL to reduce repeat API calls. We store your email, company name, and encrypted Provider Key. We do not sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

8. Site Approval

New sites registered on Saintara require approval before the translation service is active. We reserve the right to decline or revoke approval for any site that violates these Terms.

9. Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us or using the account deletion feature. We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you breach these Terms, engage in abusive behaviour, or your account poses a security or legal risk to the Service.

Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. Translation quality depends on the third-party provider you have chosen.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Saintara shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising under these Terms shall not exceed the total fees paid by you to Saintara in the three months preceding the claim.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or via an in-app notice at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
